Weak acid cation (WAC) exchange resin is a type of ion exchange resin with carboxylic acid functional groups (RCOO–). Weak base anion exchange resins refer to a type of ion exchange resin with weakly basic groups, such as primary amine groups (also known as primary amine groups) -NH2, secondary amine groups (secondary amine groups) -NHR, or tertiary amine groups (tertiary amine groups) Base)-NR2. They can dissociate from OH- in water and become weakly alkaline. Due to poor dissociation, this resin can only adsorb other anions in the solution under neutral or acidic conditions (such as pH1-9). Cation Exchange Resins contain negatively charged functional groups, which attract positively charged ions in solution. One of its applications is separating positive ions from contaminated water. Cation Exchange Resins are also further classified into two sub-groups: Strong acid cation (SAC) resins: They are made of polystyrene with a sulfonate functional group (SO3-) that is either charged with hydrogen ions (H+) or sodium ions (Na2+). Weak acid cation (WAC) resins: They are composed of acrylic polymer with carboxylic acid groups as functional groups and have a high affinity for hydrogen ions. These are commonly used to remove alkalinity-associated cations.
